Kenyan children have a chance to learn different forms of dance at the dance centre Kenya.
Its classes include:
Pre-School Ballet (ages 2-4)
This creative movement style class is the beginning of exploring basic movement to music. The use of stories, pictures, props, and rhymes stimulates learning, builds confidence, encourages expression, and inspires creativity in the youngest of dancers.
Pre-Primary Ballet (ages 4-5)
With proper attendance, these students will be eligible to participate in a Royal Academy of Dance Presentation for the Examiner; preparing them for future examinations.
Primary Ballet (ages 5-6)
With proper attendance and teacher approval, these students will be eligible for the first level of Royal Academy of Dance Examinations.
Grades 1-5 (ages 7 & up)
Provided that these students take a minimum of two ballet classes per week, are given teacher approval, and have a minimum number of absences, they will be eligible for Royal Academy of Dance Examinations.
Intermediate Foundation & Intermediate Ballet (ages 11 & up)
Upon completion of a minimum of four years of training, dancers may embark upon the Vocational Levels of the Royal Academy of Dance Examination Syllabus. These classes are intended for students who participate in dance multiple days per week.
Beginning Pointe by invitation only
Following a minimum of three years of at least twice a week ballet training, the teacher may allow the student to being pointe work. This is completely at the discretion of the teacher, and only when they determine the student’s body is physically ready for this high level of training. The emphasis of this class is on strengthening exercises both in pointe shoes and out.
Intermediate Pointe by invitation only
Following the completion of one to two years of Beginning Pointe, the teacher may recommend the progression into Intermediate Pointe. This is based on the individual students ability and strength.
Advanced Pointe by invitation only
This is the highest level of ballet training. Students should have many years of experience and the teacher’s permission to join this class.
This class is a supplement to boys’ classical ballet training. It gives boys the chance to learn the leaps and turns that only male dancers perform. It also provides a great opportunity for the boys to have unique social interactions with the other boys in the school.
Pas de Deux Class by invitation only
This classical ballet class trains boys and girls in partnering. Students will learn basic turns, jumps, and lifts with dancers of the opposite sex.
Junior/Senior Ballet Company by audition only
For our most enthusiastic of students, these classes are offered free of charge on Sundays, giving the students one extra class a week to perfect their technique. Company students will also have the opportunity to perform in the annual company production. There is a requirement of two additional ballet classes per week with an excellent attendance record.
OTHER FORMS OF DANCE
Bronze, Silver, & Gold Jazz
Jazz dance is for children who love to dance and exercise to their favorite music. Students gain strength and coordination as they learn simple dance steps leading to more complex routines as they progress through the levels.
Bronze, Silver, & Gold Tap
Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound and will build flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. With increasingly difficult syncopations, this is a fun style for beginners and those with previous experience.
Bronze, Silver, & Gold Modern
Modern dance is a dancing style that rejects many of the strict rules of classical ballet, focusing instead on the expression of inner feelings. This class is a great choice for those new to dance or looking for a freer movement style to compliment ballet or other athletic training.
Silver & Gold Contemporary
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. It strives to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements and is an excellent cross-training style for ballet dancers and athletes.
Musical Theatre Over & Under 12
Musical Theatre class will focus on learning proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. With an emphasis on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions.
Beginning & Intermediate Gymnastics
These classes will be based mostly on the tumbling side of gymnastics and are a great introduction to this fun sport.
Hip Hop Over & Under 12
Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.
Miming (ages 3-6)
Mime gives confidence and awareness of self and of others, while encouraging physical control, simplicity of thought and stimulates the imagination even in our youngest of students. This is the perfect opportunity for the little ones to get back in the studio to tell fun stories through movement.
