The play, which will be performed by the students of the Academy of Dance and Art, who are the organizers, will be its third performance in the country. “The response from our plays in the previous years has been overwhelming,” said Ann, the administrator of the school. “That is why we have chosen to perform it for a third consecutive time.”

Nutcracker tells the story of a young girl, Clara, who falls asleep under a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve while holding a nutcracker that was gifted to her by her godfather. When the clock strikes midnight, the toys around the tree come to life and an epic battle ensues between an army of mice and the army of toy soldiers, who are led by the nut cracker.

The battle is won by the nutcracker’s army and the mouse king is killed leading to his army to flee. The nutcracker then turns into a handsome prince, who leads Clara in a land of snow where they are welcomed by dancing snowflakes.

Then he leads her to a land of sweets, where they are greeted with a celebration of dances; the Russian dance, Arabian dance, Spanish dance and the Waltz of flowers among others.
The Academy of Dance and Art boasts of teachers that are professionally trained ballet dancers.

“All our teachers, who are from the UK, Greece and South Africa, are professional ballerinas so people can expect a very good show,” said Ann.

The ballet play will take place on 17th at the Kenya National Theater from 7pm.Tickets are going for Sh1000 for children and Sh1500 for adults.
