New baby store majors on international brands

Coochy Coo kid culture, a newly opened kids store in Westlands is bringing in baby furniture, cradles and chests, to add to its range of baby and kids’ clothes and accessories from the world’s top baby brands.

The shop boasts of quality and variety of choices in terms of brands, style, colour, and prices; and although it is only three months old, Shelina Mediratta, the managing director, says the customers’ response is ‘fabulous’ and they are getting positive feedback. This is also evident in their guest book that is full of positive comments and orders for more items.

The shop opened its doors at the end of July this year. Shelina says she started the boutique because there was a ‘huge gap’ and Kenyan consumers were not getting enough choice in equipment, accessories and furniture in terms of quality and brands.

“We wanted to make it easier for parents, so that they can find almost everything under one roof,” she said.

This, says Shelina, has been her dream and ‘has been on the pipeline for many years.’

The shop stocks trendy, stylish designer clothes, sourced from international and renowned brands, for kids from zero to eight years, furniture such as beds, cots, changing tables, prams, strollers ,car seats and high chairs; feeding equipments, safety kits such as stoppers and latches, baby monitors, grooming kits ,thermometers, and other accessories including breast pumps, maternity underwear, pre-packed gift packs, breast pads, baby pillows and bath towels among others.

With regard to quality, Shelina says the market is flooded with products from China, but majority of Coochy Coo products are internationally safety certified.
‘Being a parent, I cannot compromise on the safety of kids so our items have safety standards on them,’

The clothes are mostly sourced from Dubai and South Africa, safety equipments from France, and furniture from Netherlands and Spain .The feeding equipments are mostly from NUK in Germany, one of the best feeding systems in the world.

Coochy Coo is the East African’s agent for international brands such as Quinny, Maki-Cosi, Micuna, NUK, Bugzoo, Baby Shop, Safety first and Bebe Confort and this makes the prices of their products ‘fair’ since there are ‘no middle men involved’.

Other brands that the shop stocks include Graco, as well as Kids Stuff and Jahazi designs, the latter two being local suppliers. Kids Stuff produces handmade furniture and accessories, while Jahazi designs has a line of linen for cots.

If an item is not available at the shop, Coochy Coo takes order and sometimes offers the after sale service of assembling it at the comfort of your home in case of furniture such as a bed set. An order may take two to three weeks to be delivered.

‘We pride ourselves on customer service and after sale service’

Coochy Coo shop is located at Viking House, along Waiyaki way, and is open every Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm and from 11am to 4pm on Sundays.

Find it: baby shoes

Baby shoes help protect babies from sharp objects and support their body weight so they form a correct gait, but good shoes for tinies can be hard to track down. In ‘find it’ this week we list some of the outlets stocking baby shoes.

Find it: helmets

Wearing a helmet during sports, be it when cycling, roller skating or horse riding, helps reduce the risk of head injuries incase of a  collision or a fall; as most of the impact energy will be absorbed by the helmet. Our find it this week lists some of the outlets selling helmets for various sports.

Nairobi’s store for secondhand fancy costumes

Kate’s collections, an open air second hand store for fancy costumes is now giving parents a chance to ensure their kids have fun, great photos and memories during parties; as they dress in their favourite character costumes, now available at the store.

Find it: gas balloons

Balloons are great with kids’ parties not only as decorations, but also as party favours and for party games as well. Gas balloons are a favorite for many because of their buoyancy but quite rare to find; and kenyakidz just discovered where to find them.
