Paintballing turns heroes to emulsion

Children are screaming orders and acting out favorite scenes from movies and video games, as they dive for cover behind tires and snipe from makeshift towers.

This is paintballing at Kitengela Adventure, where the kids wield gas-powered guns that shoot balls filled with ‘paint’. Instead of inflicting a gaping wound, the ammunition splatters luminously, leaving a bruise and sore pride. One hit and you’re out.

Simulating a mock battlefield, two teams fight against each other. Aside from the obvious aims of obliterating the opposition, they are also charged with running from one side of the battle field to collect the enemy’s flag, and surviving to bring it back to base.

It has gone down a treat for the birthday party booked in today. As the youngsters head off for pizza, they are boasting of their daring escapades and war wounds. “I got hit here, here, here, here and here,” one kid tells his fellow comrade, stroking his paint streaked hair.

While children as young as 10 are welcome, Adam Schmidt, son of owner Rolf, says this is also a place where “grown men can act like kids.” But any would-be Rambo is more likely to end up looking like an emulsion paint advert, than the hero who saved the day.

For Sh1000, players buy the 100 paintballs for an average game. The gun, mask and overalls are all free. However, paintballing is not just the sole reason to book into the adventure playground.

“We also offer lots of activities, such as obstacle courses, football, volleyball, tug of war and mountain biking,” says Adam. The Go-Karting course, currently being revamped, is also shortly due to reopen.

    Hi Ismat,

it is on magadi road. then you turn left at the signpost for Nazarene
university. You reach a fork, and keep left (there is a sign pointing left to
kitengela adventures) all the way to Rolf's place, on your right, which is where
    the paintballing is.

Park, across the rope bridge and walk up through the restaurants to the
    paintballing centre at the back.
