Oloolua Nature Trail is giving Kenyans a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the forest situated in Karen as they take a nature walk that can help improve their well-being as a study conducted by the University of Michigan found.
The study published in the journal Escopsychology, states taking nature walks helps reduce depression, lower stress and it has a positive impact in one’s moods thus improving one’s mental health.
“The positive effects on mood seemed to be especially strong among people who had recently experienced a traumatic life event, like a serious illness or death of a loved one,” said the lead researcher Sara Warber, an associate professor at the University. “Nature group walks are also beneficial, our findings suggest that something as simple as joining an outdoor walking group may not only improve someone’s daily positive emotions but may also contribute a non-pharmacological approach to serious conditions like depression.”
At the Oloolua Nature trail, there is an added bonus as people will get enjoy some of the attractions. “There is the waterfall, mau mau hills and the papyrus swamp,” says Lucy Line, the marketing officer at Oloolua Naature Trail, “these are our main attractions.”
But it is not only for nature walks, people can hire the ground for other activities such as; family functions, graduation parties or even church meetings.
“We advise people to call us first in order to book the space, so that we can make the necessary arrangements for them,” she says, “they also need to tell us what kind of activities that they will be doing because the charges depend on the activity.”
For the nature walk, they charge Kenyans Sh200, residents Sh400 and non-residents Sh600; for children it is half the prices. Other activities such as camping, which is one of the most popular,
charges are Sh5000 per group of ten.
