A children's company is offering Kenya kids a chance to build their confidence and self-esteem through their regular beauty pageants.
Dubbed the 'Kids Beauty Pageant & Talent Competition', the contest will see children as young as one year battle it out to claim various titles in the beauty pageant and talent competition.
Started last year, the pageant is held every school holiday and aims to boost children's self-confidence.
“We do this by providing them with a platform where they can stand on their own on the stage and present in front of a big audience,” remarks Tinah Lughano the founder of Kids & Tiaras-the children's company that runs the pageant.
Targeting children between the ages of one and twelve years, the beauty pageant will be various qualities.
“Our judging criteria will be based on the kids confidence, natural beauty, presentation style,” said Tina.
The Kids & Tiaras founder goes on to add that the pageant is not a glitz one therefore the participating children are not allowed to wear make-up hence the element of natural beauty being placed as a judging criterion.
The pageant will also see various categories awarded such as the best smile, the best dressed under the Easter theme and the best hair.
Boys can also participate in the beauty pageant but according to Tina, past experience has seen them take to the talent competition.
Judging criteria for the talent competition is similar to that of that of the pageant.
“Apart from looking at how good you are at your talent, we will also be observing your confidence levels and how you present yourself,” noted Tina.
The talents that can be showcased for the competition should be stage-performance based.
Registration for the two contests is on a first come, first served basis.
“We used to do auditions but we realized that it was killing the morale of the children so we decided that anyone can go to the finals. We do have a cut-off number though.
Registration for the contests is Sh1000 per child which should be paid by April 6th to Mpesa account number 822077.The one day event will be held April 11th at Kenya International Conference Centre (K.I.C.C) from 9am to 4pm.
Parents and children can also go to watch the performances at a fee of Sh200 and Sh100 respectively.
