Kids Gymnastics is moving from Lavington Mall to Mugumo Road, just 50m away, in a bid to cater to its growing audience of child gymnasts while diversifying the services offered.
Currently catering to 200 children per week, Kids Gymnastics felt that the space at Lavington Mall was just too small.
“The children coming to do gymnastics here have been growing and we saw that a bigger space would work better for us so that e could also offer more activities,” said Patrick Owuor, trained gymnast and founder of Kids Gymnastics.
The move to a bigger space will also see Patrick and his team examine children taking the professional classes twice a year. With a bigger space comes new equipment and that is what Kids Gymnastics did as it forges on with its dream of taking Kenyan gymnasts to the Olympics in the next 10 years.
“Following the move, we were able to acquire a beam, mats and a single bar,” said Patrick.
“Every 6 months we will be testing the children taking the gymnastics classes from level one to twelve and spectators are welcome to watch. Currently the exams are internal but with time we hope to get involved with the International Gymnastics Federation so that we can have professional evaluators coming in from China and USA to do the grading,” said Patrick.
Apart from gymnastics, the centre will now also be offering Taekwondo to children as young as three years thanks i part to the expansion.
“For one hour three times a week, children can take part in Taekwondo classes which we will be offering for all stage right from the beginner level,”said Patrick.
Just like the professional gymnastics classes, Taekwondo will also be examined every six months by Patrick and his team and will be certified by the Kenya Taekwondo Association.
Children more inclined to the arts and less sporty activities need not as Kids Gymnastics have not forgotten about them as they also now offer fine art. Still in the same premises, lego play centre also opened up giving children who love to play with lego an unlimited access to it.
The expansion of Kids Gymnastics comes with an increase in price. Sessions which last one hour will now be charged at Sh700 up from Sh600. If one wishes to do various activities for three hours it will cost Sh1500. Participating in five sessions will cost Sh3500 while ten will be charged at Sh6000.
