A children's company is giving Kenya kids the chance to develop their talents in performing and creative arts through a taught program and build a career from a young age.

Run by Kiddoz Kenya, the program which takes place from late February until April sees children between the ages of three and thirteen years trained in a variety of performing arts such as singing, dancing and acting. .

The training at Kiddoz Kenya is divided into two stages. The first is a basic one where children are taught numerous skills in the performing arts while the second one will enable the child to focus more on the talent they excelled at.

“The basic course is well under way and we even had a graduation in May but the next level course is yet to be developed,” said Kiddoz Kenya Founder Celestine Ondinyo.

In a country where the arts are rarely considered as a career choice, this course comes as a welcome surprise. The success of Oscar winning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o also serves as a reminder that it is possible to excel in an art related career.

Despite the infancy of Kiddoz Kenya which was started in 2012, they have still been able to hone some talents.

“We have some kids right now who are doing some art exhibitions because they are very good in drawing and painting while others have been involved in performing at events such as weddings,” said Celestine.

Various health benefits of the performing arts also encourage children to take up the classes. An article titled, Leisure Activities and the Risk of Dementia in the Elderly which was published in The New England Journal of Medicine concluded that recreational activities such as dancing reduced the risk of demetia by upto seven per cent

To able to attend the course at Kiddoz Kenya, a child will pay Sh10000 for the 10 sessions at a rate of Sh1000 per session. A registration fee of Sh 1000 will also be needed.
