Kenya kids stand to develop healthy lifestyles these holidays thanks to the various camps running during the school break which according to a research done by University of Waterloo’s Healthy Communities Research Network are all benefits of the holiday activities. This comes at a time when approximately 2 million deaths worldwide are caused due to physical inactivity.

The popuparity of summer camps in Kenya has been steadily on the rise with parents terming them a great avenue to keep their children active and engaged during the holidays while also helping them develop lifelong skills such as confidence and emotional intelligence.

Children of various age groups and interests stand to be incorporated into the summer camps which range from art related to sports.


Tekoa Kids Camp is just one of these summer camps. This camp will see children engage in sporty activities such as crazy olympics and laser tag. There will also be creative activities like craft works and a talent show. Social activities will not be left out as there will be a bonfire. Life Skills

Supercamp is a holiday enrichment program that focuses on growing a child academically, towards their future career while also giving them essential life skills.  The camp makes use of Quantum Learning teaching methods. The Supercamp Lite edition is a sneak preview into the longer 8-10 day camp. The Lite camp runs for three days and is designed to inspitre children to believe themselves and their ability to accomplish their life desires.
Running from  August 19th to 21st, the program targets children aged between 11 and 14 years and will cost Sh45000.

The International Christian Centre in Mombasa is holding a religious camp for children aged 3-14 years. Under the theme 'Heroes of the Bible', the camp hopes to inspire children to become modern day superheroes through their faith and their actions.

Aspirational leaders have a chance to develop their skills through the 'Young Leaders Camp' being held at Brackenhurst in Limuru. In conjunction with the Africa Leadership Academy and Spire Schools, the camp will see kids work with others to design solutions for Vision 2030, learn critical thinking while also meeting other potential future leaders.

International Youth Fellowship (IYF) Camp aims to nurture the next generation of  global leaders. Arts

Artsy children will be happy to learn about the Mini Art Camps at Little Peacoco Arts Studio which will see them learn new art techniques, get creative and still make friends.
Running twice daily from June 15th to August 28th, the camp will target children aged 3 to 13 years.
The camp will be divided into a morning session between 9.30am & 12.30pm amd an afternoon one between 2pm & 4pm. The morning session will cost Sh2500 daily for 3 hours or Sh11000 for a five day package. Afternoon sessions will cost Sh1700 for the two hours or Sh7500 for a five day package which is to be paid in advance.
Fruits, biscuits and water or juice will be provided. Parents are also requested to inform the studio of any allergies their children may have.

For children geared more towards music, Sauti Academy is holding a holiday program which will see talented teenagers grow their music skills. Running from the 3rd to 7th August, the Sauti ya Vijana Holiday Program will offer the students voice lessons as well as teach the young ones life skills such as   communication, working with others, self-confidence and self -expression. The lessons will be divided into two sessions, morning and afternoon. The morning one will focus on voice technique, music interpretation and performance coaching while the afternoon one will see the cstudents sing together in a pop-choir.
The morning session or afternoon session only will cost Sh5000. The full day program will cost Sh9000 and with lunch it will be Sh11500.

Sports

Children more interested in sports can delight themselves in the Evans Fun Sports Camp being held at Nanyuki Sports Club. Running from July 13th to 31st, the camp will involve sports such as tennis, tag rugby, swimming, cycling and team building activities. The sports shall be played according to a daily schedule which is divided into morning, mid-morning and afternoon sessions.

Aspiring footballers in Nyali have a chance to be trained in the beautiful game. Running every Saturday and Sunday from 2pm-6pm the children will be trained for a month. The training focuses on children between the ages of 7 and 14 years. The trainign will be held on artificial turf at the Arena Futsal in Nyali and will cost Sh4000.

For children more inclined to Technoloy, Brackenhurst in partnership with Havard University is holding a Robot Camp from August 25th to 29th that will see kids learn about electronics and engineering from international experts. The four day camp will also allow children to build a robot that they can keep.
