Kenyan children have the chance to take part in an indoor rock climbing competition at the climb blue sky in Nairobi while at the same time getting a total body aerobic workout.
A study conducted by the University of Wisconsin on the Benefits of rock climbing on the body’ found that both indoor and outdoor rock climbing provide a total body workout for the participants.
“The competition is a platform where climbers can come together, appreciate the sport, provide an atmosphere where climbers can test their skill set and compete with one another, challenge climbers to grow in their skillset, promote the sport in Kenya as well as appreciate good climbers,” said Leah Mwangi, the marketing manager of Climb BlueSky who are hosting it.
The event which is held annually is meant to celebrate talented climbers and allow them to set themselves goals for climbing in the course of the year. In this year’s event, there will be three different levels.
“There will be beginners, intermediate and advanced levels,” she said. “Each level will compete based on ages; there will be an under 12 category, under 16 category and above 16, there will also be a category for adult men and women overall. The routes will be marked for the different levels and there will be prizes for the different winners.”
In light to the upcoming event, the organization has done some renovations that have helped improve their bouldering problems. In the recent past, they had seven but they have doubled them to fourteen and improved the routes to accommodate all level, previously they had 70 routes which were not categorized.

. or contact them on 0726 324 961. Those who register by 14th February will only pay Sh2,000 while those who register after that and by 26th will be required to pay Sh2500 and on the day of the event the registration fee will be Sh3000.
The event will take place on 27th February from 4pm to 7pm. The minimum age for a child to participate is six years.
