Currently, cancer patients are treated at the specialized level where they carter for their own medical expense which can be quite high.

The Bill also seeks to promote the use of e-health and telemedicine for the prevention and treatment of persons with cancer. This will include the use of the combination of electronic communication and information technology in the health sector; sharing of medical knowledge over distance using telecommunications and consultative diagnostic, and treatment services.

Medical practitioners will also be trained so that they can deliver the best health care needed for cancer patients.

“The Institute shall collaborate with the national government department responsible for public health to promote the training of medical oncologists, pediatric oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiation therapy oncologists, oncology nurses, oncology physicists and other healthcare providers,” said Honorable Wanga.

It shall also promote the establishment of support measures that seek to eradicate conditions that cause and aggravate the spread of cancer.
